I made this short animation to play around with the idea that in life we are freefalling, like Alice down the rabbit hole. I decided to adapt a well-known tale of scientific discovery, reversing the action and ending on a falling apple, to suggest that the fall is more interesting than the smack on the ground. In the process, I managed to satisfy my other aim – to gain a good grasp of After Effects, which I had until then used only in a very basic way. The Trapcode Particular leaves and the painstaking rotoscope of the apple made for an experiment in patience, but the project did make me fall in love with After Effects and its possibilities.
